The fifth annual report produced by the Sexual Health Epidemiology Group (formerly the Sexually Transmitted Infection Epidemiology Advisory Group (STIEAG) and published jointly by Information Services Division and Health Protection Scotland.

Scotland's Sexual Health Information report, 2009, is a compendium of sexual health data for 2008 compiled from a number of different sources including laboratories, genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics, and primary care to describe sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, in Scotland and information relating to other aspects of sexual health, for example, teenage pregnancy and abortion data.

Social Marketing campaign
The three West of Scotland NHS boards Ayrshire and Arran, Lanarkshire and Greater Glasgow and Clyde are launching a social marketing campaign using the strapline “Make Your Position Clear”  that communicates sexual health messages to men who have sex with men.
The three Health boards continue to take a joint approach to producing a media campaign that takes a safer sex message to people living and working in their areas.
The campaign will target gay men, bisexual men and other men who have sex with men. It communicates two of the key objectives identified in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Gay Men’s Sexual Health Strategy:-
Using condoms and lubricant for anal intercourse
Promoting sexual health check ups including an HIV test at every six months.
The campaign has been developed as part of the Boards’ response to the significant rise in rates of HIV and sexually transmitted infections, especially syphilis which continue to both of which continue to be primarily transmitted through sex between men.
These rises in STI rates occurred alongside a noted rise in sexual risk taking behaviour especially increases in incidences of unprotected anal intercourse between men.
The campaign has been developed following extensive consultation with gay and bisexual men in both urban and non urban localities across the three health board areas on the content, and the preferred location of the campaign materials.
A two tier campaign has been developed supported by a website http://www.makeyourpositionclear.com
Tier 1 materials will be specific to gay venues and online gay social networking sites and be communicated in a style identified by the target audience as relevant to their needs and suitably eye catching.
Tier 2 will involve a toned down version of the campaign for use in mainstream settings such as GP practices, pharmacies, higher and further education settings and can also be used in local authority settings such as sports centres and community libraries.
